Ayurveda, the natural healing system of India, looks to the five
elements (ether, air, fire, water and space) as a foundation for
experiencing balance both in the natural world and within our beings.
The doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) are the 3 bodily humors that make up
one's mind/body constitution. These doshas are based upon
predominances of the five elements. Seasonally we also see prevalent
elements that act on the doshas in the body. In the case of the late
fall/winter season we see the elements of air and ether strongest,
which often serves to increase those elements in our body as well.
These two elements being characteristic of Vata dosha are therefore
more easily found in excess in beings during the fall/winter season
both in individuals with Vata constitution and those with other
constitutions. Learn about nurturing Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle
practices and experience yogic tools including grounding asanas
(postures,) stabilizing pranayama (breathing exercises,) meditation and
chanting to maintain harmony in vata dosha during the vata time of
year. This workshop is a perfect for learning ways to relax your
nervous system, reduce stress and worry and experience more courage in
life. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one.
Open to all. No prior yoga or Ayurvedic experience necessary.

Thai Massage Training w/ Ariela Grodner bio click here www.arielasthaimassage.com *18 ceu's for LMT's and 9 for yoga alliance.
Saturday & Sunday January 21st & 22nd 9:00am-6:00pm
Cost is $300 ~ $100 deposit due upon registration due by 1/1/12
We will spend 2 days learning the art of Thai massage with Master
teacher Ariela Grodner (NCBTMB). You will learn enough material to
create a flowing two hour routine as well as the Ayurvedic roots that
support and deepen your practice. For students new to Thai Massage,
as well as experienced practitioners, this course links practice with
purpose: to broaden elements of grace,
clarity, ease and compassion into our lives and to those you touch. This
training is special as we aren't only learning a routine but also how
to use different techniques for different needs based on doshas
(Ayurvedic diagnostics). WHAT IS THAI YOGA MASSAGE? Thai Yoga
Massage is a type of massage in the Thai style that involves stretching
and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the
floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement.
No oils are used in Thai massage. It is known in Thailand as "nuat
phaen boran". You can also call it Lazy man's (Lady's) yoga! The
massage recipient changes into loose, comfortable clothes and lies on a
mat or firm mattress on the floor. It can be done solo or in a group of a
dozen or so patients in the same large room. The receiver is put into
many yoga-like positions during the course of the massage. The
massage practitioner leans on the recipient's body using hands and
usually straight forearms locked at the elbow to apply firm rhythmic
pressure. The massage generally follows the Sen lines on the body —
somewhat analogous to meridians or Channel (Chinese medicine) and Indian
nadis. Legs and feet of the giver can be used to fixate the body or
limbs of the recipient. In other positions, hands fixate the body, while
the feet do the massaging action. A full Thai massage session typically
lasts two hours or more, and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching
of the entire body; this may include pulling fingers, toes, ears,
cracking the knuckles, walking on the recipient's back, and arching the
recipient's into bhujangasana or cobra position. There is a standard
procedure and rhythm to this massage that becomes a flowing dance with
practice. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THAI INTENSIVE • Enough material to create a flowing 2 hour routine • Proper body mechanics and body techniques which includes the use of our hands, knees, forearms and feet • Basic sen lines, points and Ayurvedic application
Students will learn enough material to give a two hour sequence which,
due to being practiced on the floor, will enable the therapist to
utilize the elbows, knees, forearms and feet in a comfortable and
efficient way, that uses conscious body dynamics and demonstrates the
appropriate way to distribute weight. Special attention will be devoted
to cultivating the basic stances, postures and transitions necessary
for the ultimate mastery of this healing modality. Students will be
led through a series of exercises intended to simultaneously relax and
root them, while also familiarizing them with the basic vocabulary of
stances and forms inherent to the modality. Students will then observe a
demonstration of the first form while following along with the provided
teaching materials before pairing off to practice themselves. After
pairing off, the students will practice the form several times; first
following a guided demonstration and then moving on to following the
provided teaching material while the instructor circulates and provides
hands on help with the various techniques as they are practiced. Every
session will end with a question and answer period which can also
include hands on clarification of any aspect of the forms and
techniques.
