Ayurveda, the natural healing system of India, looks to the five elements (ether, air, fire, water and space) as a foundation for experiencing balance both in the natural world and within our beings. The doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) are the 3 bodily humors that make up one's mind/body constitution. These doshas are based upon predominances of the five elements. Seasonally we also see prevalent elements that act on the doshas in the body. In the case of the late fall/winter season we see the elements of air and ether strongest, which often serves to increase those elements in our body as well. These two elements being characteristic of Vata dosha are therefore more easily found in excess in beings during the fall/winter season both in individuals with Vata constitution and those with other constitutions. Learn about nurturing Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle practices and experience yogic tools including grounding asanas (postures,) stabilizing pranayama (breathing exercises,) meditation and chanting to maintain harmony in vata dosha during the vata time of year. This workshop is a perfect for learning ways to relax your nervous system, reduce stress and worry and experience more courage in life. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one.

Open to all. No prior yoga or Ayurvedic experience necessary.

WHAT IS THAI YOGA MASSAGE?
Thai Yoga Massage is a type of massage in the Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage. It is known in Thailand as "nuat phaen boran". You can also call it Lazy man's (Lady's) yoga!
The massage recipient changes into loose, comfortable clothes and lies on a mat or firm mattress on the floor. It can be done solo or in a group of a dozen or so patients in the same large room. The receiver is put into many yoga-like positions during the course of the massage.
The massage practitioner leans on the recipient's body using hands and usually straight forearms locked at the elbow to apply firm rhythmic pressure. The massage generally follows the Sen lines on the body — somewhat analogous to meridians or Channel (Chinese medicine) and Indian nadis. Legs and feet of the giver can be used to fixate the body or limbs of the recipient. In other positions, hands fixate the body, while the feet do the massaging action. A full Thai massage session typically lasts two hours or more, and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body; this may include pulling fingers, toes, ears, cracking the knuckles, walking on the recipient's back, and arching the recipient's into bhujangasana or cobra position. There is a standard procedure and rhythm to this massage that becomes a flowing dance with practice.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THAI INTENSIVE
• Enough material to create a flowing 2 hour routine
• Proper body mechanics and body techniques which includes the use of our hands, knees, forearms and feet
• Basic sen lines, points and Ayurvedic application
Students will learn enough material to give a two hour sequence which, due to being practiced on the floor, will enable the therapist to utilize the elbows, knees, forearms and feet in a comfortable and efficient way, that uses conscious body dynamics and demonstrates the appropriate way to distribute weight. Special attention will be devoted to cultivating the basic stances, postures and transitions necessary for the ultimate mastery of this healing modality.
Students will be led through a series of exercises intended to simultaneously relax and root them, while also familiarizing them with the basic vocabulary of stances and forms inherent to the modality. Students will then observe a demonstration of the first form while following along with the provided teaching materials before pairing off to practice themselves. After pairing off, the students will practice the form several times; first following a guided demonstration and then moving on to following the provided teaching material while the instructor circulates and provides hands on help with the various techniques as they are practiced. Every session will end with a question and answer period which can also include hands on clarification of any aspect of the forms and techniques.
Bountiful Bliss
~An Evening of Kirtan, Chocolate, Sparkles, Bubbles & Bliss!!!!
~Kirtan lead by Susannah & Francesco Sanfilippo

Friday December 30th 6pm ~ $ Donation Event

Let's join together to welcome the new year, new beginnings, new ways of being in 2012!  The evening will begin at 6pm with an opportunity to say hello to friends, work collectively on an art project, give and/or receive thai massage, stretch and dance your body open and then begin kirtan at 7pm.

Kirtan is a path of yoga called Bhakti, or devotion.  Singing is the heart of kirtan (call & response chanting).  As meditative music, we link our voices and breath with sound and silence, merging with the bigger condiousness of beloved divine energy. Kirtan is a powerful, renewing and transformative means of finding our heart and our connection with Life.  Unfold with us in co-creating a vocal journey with melody and rhythm.
No previous experience is needed.

At Bhakti in Motion
Investment:  $12-$20 sliding scale

Sunday September 18th 4:00-6:00pm

Yoga Nidra is a technique enabling us to connect with the innate power within ourselves. Lying comfortably, we are gently guided to a unique place which is a combination of inward awareness and deep relaxation, a state of consciousness where we are neither awake or asleep. Here we are
in touch with our essential nature. In this potent space we are able to move through obstructions, internal and external, making way for transformation and healing. From this quiet, empowered place we offer an intention.
No yoga or meditation experience is needed at all.

Love is the most healing energy in the universe.
-Deepak Chopra.

The Buddhist monks knew this, the Thai masters knew this and AcroYogis know this! We clear our minds and become present with our breath in preparation to channel the ancient wisdom of Metta - loving kindness. Thai massage lays the foundation of compassionate touch, receptivity and communication. The techniques learned on the floor will be taken to the air in the flying work. Flying can be a deeply transformational way to surrender to gravity and to the support of a partner, allowing unnecessary holdings to be released. We will work in groups of 3 - base, flyer and spotter - to ensure safety and to encourage teamwork. The dance of giving and receiving will leave everyone in the room floating with gratitude. No partner necessary. a yoga practice
recommended and the openness to turning your world upside down.
